All About the Macon County Humane Society
The Macon County Humane Society is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization established in 2003 in Macon County, Alabama.
It is an ALL volunteer organization without a physical shelter, that uses a network of dedicated fosters to provide temporary care for local abandoned and suffering animals. We need more foster homes to provide a safe environment for the steady flow of strays that come to our door, to look after them until they are adopted (through our website and network of associated shelters). We are working on raising awareness in the community, seeking people to join us in raising funds to support this effort, or to be a foster caregiver. As a foster, all you have to supply is the love and attention these wonderful animals deserve, we provide the supplies and veterinary care.
Due to the closing of the Victory Land Casino last year, Macon County Humane Society lost ALL of their funding, and has had to scramble to replace it from other sources. Apart from covering our operating costs and vet bills, we are also seeking to raise funds to establish a fully staffed state-of-the art adoption and humane education center. This is a much-needed facility that will have an immediate and positive impact on the people who live and work in our community.
Our Vision for the Future
Each year in the United States, millions of companion animals enter animal shelters and sadly, never leave with the loving family it deserves. In fact, according to the Humane Society of the United States, in order to solve the animal overpopulation crisis, it is estimated that each man, woman and child would have to provide care for no less than seven animals. In Macon County, Alabama each year, one thousand animals are euthanized simply becasue they did not have a home.
The Macon County Humane Society envisions a community for animals where they are no longer homeless but sheltered, where animals are no longer starving but fed and well cared for, where no animal will ever be a victim of intentional abuse, and where unintentional neglect is resolved through education.
We invite you to join us in this effort
The Macon County Humane Society is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no-kill Humane Society that is dedicated to using every tool and resource we can to save as many animals as possible.
