After word of Blue's plight became public, a family in Florida heard of his story and determined that they would step forward and give Blue a new home. After a three hour drive, they arrived in Tuskegee, met with Blue and completed the adoption process.
Blue has a new home where he is the center of attention and great prospects for a long and happy life with his new family.
It has been said that while you can't save every animal in the world, you can make the world of difference for one animal.
Blue is a great example of what that difference can be and with your support, the Macon County Humane Society can provide more happy endings for more animals like him.

Chilton:It was a beautiful sunny day in April when I left to go to the next small town to do a little shopping on my lunch break.  I went into our local Wal-Mart 

After talking with a Wal-Mart employee I learned that people dumped dogs off there all the time. The humane shelter was practically right across the street so I took her there.  Three weeks later the shelter called and no one had inquired.  I went and got her and went straight to the veterinarian’s hospital.   I named her, Chilton, and was told she had heartworms and had not been spayed.  I had a feeling she had been allowed to have puppies every year.

After having her spayed and cured of the heartworms, my husband and I took her home to meet our other two Labs.  She was a street wise dog and obviously had had a tough life.  She was the boss.  She made the other two dogs walk the line but always just tried her hardest to please us.  She constantly licked our hands and any part of our bodies as if to say

 “thank you.”   She was a total joy to be around and somehow looking at her always reminded us of just how very fortunate we all were.

Chilton stayed with us for four-and-a-half years before suffering renal failure.  We did all we could but had to have her put to sleep last June.  Even just before the end she looked up at us with that same sparkle in her eyes.  Our lives were so touched by this deserted street wise dog. We miss her now and always will.
